September 15, 2013 - Back to the future!
Both are rebounding.
But FF is better.
So, it starts off like garbage.
More of the Shepherd. And maybe that's much of my problem with the comic. The Shepherd is a piece of garbage, right? Total loser in the face. Especially seeing the big flip on him from the beginning.
But in the midst of the comic, it flips for the better. The cup of coffee shared is particularly great. And Magnus learning much of the technology around helps - and isn't necessarily the real enemy - that makes some sort of a difference in a bunch of the comic. Suddenly, it's a much bigger comic - instead of just fighting against every robot in the place. Suddenly it becomes a comic.
The art is terrible - and it slowly degrades throughout the comic. It's trying to be sharp, but isn't by the end. Even seems raw. But I'm not noticing if the story gets this decent.
This one felt quite a bit better.
The ending is certain at the beginning, sure... But for some reason, it seems more natural as it unfolds. The relationships between Crystal and Johnny, for example. Playful, light, and interesting. I always say that I like these comics when they have a greater part inserted into the human contact in the comics. It's the best part of them. Sure, this villain is pretty pathetic. He's dull at the best. Mad Thinker's lackey returns to turn Ben back into the Thing?
Not who I would have chosen to embrace that change. But otherwise, it's great.
I especially loved how when Ben really could see that Alicia loved him more as the Thing. He works as the big guy. And seeing him sort of walk off, and embracing it. That's embracing it. That's Ben.
