September 16, 2013 - Fighting what is within you
I will let you choose.
One has been up from something bad, the other down from a relatively good improvement.
Those danged voodoo priestesses...
I still don't completely understand why this comic had to move over to the mature level here. Instead of symbols it includes some cuss words - and some very uncomfortable adult scenarios that could have been skimmed over.
But Nettie does get her vengeance. Should anyone ever think that a deal with someone involved in voodoo could EVER turn out well for ANYONE? The number of times I've seen in fiction a person jumping into these contracts - and NEVER turning out right. Right?
The conclusion is a fair one - certainly nowhere near as good as the last issue was. I hope that it gets back to that level.
One of the cooler parts of this comic was the preview for the next issue of Shadowman that included the ORIGINAL cover to Shadowman that DC blocked - or Acclaim was scared out of. Not sure which, but I want to try and scan it to include it next month. That was pretty cool.
Actually not that bad.
I am sad to say that I liked this. I'm not upset that I liked it. Just I am upset that I haven't liked more of these lately. THAT is the painful part. It's tough to see a great comic that falls into the path of mediocrity so quickly. Especially when it COULD be relatively good relatively easily.
This one has most of the usual problems. Striking caricatures of Asian villains, and an appearance from the evil chairman Mao, too. But even through all of this extremely dated writing, the comic is a fairly decent one. It doesn't delve into the reasons or mechanisms behind the fighting and set-up. It does, however, tell a pretty easy to follow story that for once, was a pretty fun read.
