October 14, 2012 - I kinda liked this...
Avengers stinks this issue.
A pretty good turn in the book
I know that if you traced most of the Eternal Warrior's run, it would be nearly impossible for him to really be at all of these significant changes in the world's history. But I don't care. This start of the story with Genghis Khan is amazing. The defense of the character - and seeing him then abandon them - it really gets back into the heart of what the book is all about.
Him insulting his brothers again - excellent. But the over-arching lesson - even if it is a bit FAR too trite, is what the story and comic are all about. He fights to defend - even if the fight cannot be won. But then remembers that no matter who he fights for, everyone around him will die at some point. Great comic. Worth a re-read.
It took me a month to make it through this.
I kept coming back to it, and getting interrupted, stopping, and having little desire to finish it. Not certain if it was connected to the activity, or just the fact that I lost most of the stuff in the book.
The Silver Age stuff has really been grating on me lately - especially this pack of four people. This Avengers team has been a lost cause for a long time. The cover kind of works - but the story is flat.
Combine it with the fact that I really don't like Attuma all that much. He's gotten messier and messier since the first time around - and this stuff has lasted too long.
