July 21, 2012 - RESTART!
But Avengers has come a longer distance.
This book starts a good direction.
Of course, it's all over the big changes that writers have had to insert into the pages of the book. Starting a new direction requires a bit of re-writing history. But with a character that can travel through any ages - it isn't that big of a problem.
The comic is a fun one. I like filling in a little of Geoff's history - and the fact that the aunt is a crazy person. But the battle when the Earth starts rejecting the power-hungry Geomancer is perfectly placed.
Of course, we've seen this obsession in a Geomancer before, and the story may or may not have been laid down ahead of this - but this story is excellent. Eternal Warrior did have a good sense of itself throughout much if the run. Probably why it lasted so long. Also, this is the Holy Grail for much of the Valiant run - certainly for the VVSS books. Its run under 1000 (probably quite a bit less) makes crazed obsessive completionists pay TONS of money for this comic. The run is probably around 700 in reality, and even Greg's site lists its value at $225. In comparison, the Psi-Lords 1 lists at 800, and the value is $75. Rai 21 lists at $100 and it has 1000 copies. Geomancer at 1000 copies lists for $80. In addition, the Eternal Warrior RARELY comes up for sale. In short, if you CAN find this, BUY it. The last one to come up for sale on ebay went for $353. It went to those levels quickly.
REALLY reality strikes.
The comic was at the cutting edge. Certainly. So much happens in the changes of the comic. New team, and now the total disbanding of the team. Nice work. After defeat last month, the team now looks for refuge - only to find their name has been dragged through the mud. Ringmaster has been let out of prison - apparently sentences last two-three days in the Sixties - but it's still the first steps of this shared universe concept.
I love the fact that the ramifications of the comic seem to have long-term effects - Captain America quitting would have serious changes on the comic. Of course it isn't permanent, but it's a great start to the new comic age - and seeing Avengers start to follow Spider-Man's path.
