May 30, 2012 - OUT of CONTROL!
Not a bad day.
But I lean toward Harbinger.
I can't really say that I read much of the Harbinger beyond the first twenty-five issues. Certainly, I don't remember much of it. But these issues are rather good. Even compelling, perhaps. This bad Boom-Boom rip-off - why, oh, why did they rip off Boom-Boom? - Is pretty stinking good.
Great work really trying to examine the hard heads of teenagers. Examining so much in the desires and fragile nature of relationships. These books could never reach the iconic status of the early books, but they aren't too bad, at all.
Especially seeing Gilad back - remember he's the one who turned the Secret Weapons over to the Harbinger foundation. Not bad, really.
The Big man strikes!
This issue follows the battle between the X-Men and the Juggernaut. Nice work. Don't get me wrong - it isn't what I would call good by any means. This comic pretty much suffers through most of its early issues - now a big part of the reason why so many of the books are now worth so much. But after last month's origin, I was hoping to see more of his masked face - and the reveal is kind of a disappointment.
But the battle is worth reading. It isn't a great comic, but it is willing to show that this team of misfits in't really capable of defeating the Juggernaut when they fight him toe to toe. In fact, they aren't really even capable of doing much more than delaying him or slowing him down a bit. Why he doesn't get some serious duct tape around the helmet, I don't know. Decent comic.
