August 7, 2012 - Almost there.
Any other month,
Either of these books could win. This month, I lean to Magnus.
Seriously great issue
Beautiful way to incorporate the Rai history into the beginning of the book. It then uickly wraps around to a confrontation that passes the breaking point. HOLY OUCH!
Only one problem in the book. When the 140 year-old Rai shows up, I wanted him to be a LITTLE confrontational with him - other than just words. This is a kid who killed his mother recently, and now he's afraid of his nearly dead grandfather?
Otherwise - what a romp. Heck, I even enjoyed the Psi-Lord included in it. Nice to see some REAL confrontation - and little Torque not being such a dopey little piece of garbage. And look, I made it through the whole entry without complaining about how they totally changed the Takashi character completely.
Crossing over to the modern era
Nice cut. This issue makes some serious adjustments from the Silver toward the Bronze Age. Now, it's readjusting the placement of Medusa in the era - certainly - but it is making a bunch better.
Invisible Woman is becoming less of a stupid girl mentality. She is a thinker - not just prettified.
The Dragon Man character is the big ugly part of the story. If he wasn't in this story, I'd make serious consideration to modifying its place in the story - and putting it above the Magnus masterpiece. But with that said, it is developing - and slowly introducing - some excellent characters in the book. I wasn't a huge fan of the placement of Crystal as such a wimp, but...
