October 8, 2013 - A swift change in focus again.
Leaning to the Avengers - but both are pretty decent.
Bringing back the big guns.
I came into this with high hopes. And Eternal Warriors has been a coaster. Still not certain why some of the time, the reads are excellent, and some of the time, they are bad, and sometimes, it shifts during reading from very good to poor and back again. But it really does.
This is one of those shifting stories where I found myself alternating from good to bad and back again. Nice, strong homage to the relative strength of the origin stories - coming back to Armstrong always having the sidekick, and liking having the kid around.
But the central part of the book revolves around the conflict between Aram and Gilad - or Warmaster. I wish it could have delved more strongly into the reasoning behind his desperate need to execute half of the planet. Was it to kill SOLAR, get rid of the weak? All I know is that really, there's a big bomb. And he wants to set it off. Bring some of the real history. Use those flashbacks that were so popular in the other stories. At least, though, this time, I felt like the entirety of the story was really filled from start to stern in it. Not like a filler. I also like the fact that most of the stories in the book have a way of offsetting each other. Turok one month, EW another. Thanks.
This was a spectacular comic. Of course, we all know where this crazy thing is going. And if I hadn't fallen for it, I probably would have been ticked off about the fact that Janet ran off with the guy after one kiss. And he's the guy that killed her ex.
With the forward perspective, I can see better - but it's still not great. Sadly, though - or perhaps happily - I am jumping ahead and choosing to enjoy it.
Really liked the perspective of each character thinking about Hank - and introducing him as a 'hero,' but with an edge was a great concept, too.
Sneaking in the mental exhaustion with Janet and Hank much before helps with the long-term believability of the story - and it seems to be working so far.
Not sure how I feel so far about the criticism of the Vision. That didn't really stick well with me yet.
