January 12, 2012 - Here we go, again!
Back at em
Give this one to the Avengers book.
Look, everyone! A guest STAR!
I always hated when a comic would forcibly guide its path into some crazy guest star to lead into the next comic. Ugh. This was painfully bad. Like where the hell is all of this going kind of bad.
At least I know how in the world Secret Weapons got going - but I really never even cared a lick of a lick for anything on it. This is forced, heavy-handed, and really trying to be much more than it is.
I don't care about the enemies, the characters, and for a universe that prided itself on its continuity, a major fail.
Versus... well EVERYONE!
I can't help but think about the concept of accelerated storytelling when reading this story. It's how a normal story can be taken, and told in a pitch that goes faster than the actual story goes. So many of the panels call for real speculation, or assembly of parts - the book doesn't show every little move. On the contrary, a modern comic feels the need to show every twist of a body. Sometimes it's helpful, sometimes overwhelming.
This cover - that they break-up, had me looking forward to the issue when the big shake shows all of the new members. While it doesn't happen for quite a while, this issue isn't a bad one, at all.
