January 9, 2014 - Death?
Before I even read Spider-Man
Quantum and Woody are better.
Not any more than before.
This comic took another notch up the ladder of greatness here. Loved it. Woody really has lost his sense of connection to most of the relatively know universe - and Eric even seems to be falling against him - somewhat. The lines are snappy - and fun. This War Locke character - what a great creation to really fill in against the two. Unstoppable force vs immovable object kind of thing. Let's quickly review.
Loved the entrance of the goat. And Woody's incessant pestering of the lost super-villain. Of course he'd drive him crazy by singing. Eric's heard that stuff forever - and learned to deal with it - for the most part.
Woody's commentary - ongoing - about the villain's heritage - and then opening up the can of north vs south - awesome. Of course the guy couldn't REALLY exist in reality. But man, is it funny to read him - poking him in the eye. This kind of stuff can't be said - even in impolite company - any more. But it certainly hits the paces of what it was - in places people didn't talk about - and certainly can't laugh about. But Priest's writing PERFECTLY threads that needle bordering and brings out all of its humor.
The super-villain - and its commentary - are far too amazing to wreck again by re-telling the jokes. But knocked it out. And the running commentary gag. Guy that just left? Beautiful.
Gumby - light jump - how many times can you die. Priest even brought Eric into the humor, too. And Woody retaliated back quickly. "Don't start to get funny!" Loved the comic thoroughly. I am remembering why when I was finished - I needed to go back and re-read it.
Everyone always comes back, right?
And this one - this continuing story of the youthening Silvermane - attached to the tablet - not terrible to have the story continuing through - but the payoff just came a little too quickly. Hold out. And don't translate the stuff so much. How many times did characters keep shouting out, "He looks even younger than just now..."
Really, I thought what could have been cool - but a little too bloodthirsty - might have been to get him younger - and then someone else shoot him - not knowing who it was. Almost a Night of the Living Dead kind of changeover.
But the other continuing story - Dr. Connor as the lizard. That was one that I can really get into! Why not kill off the Silvermane last issue - and have Lizard appear for the 75th? Retrospect always great, right?
