July 24, 2012 - Where do we go from here?
SOLAR wins this one. Wow.
So, SOLAR the Destroyer, eh?
Not a bad concept - if a little rusty in its execution. It switches back and forth a bunch in the storytelling - not a bad idea - and the changes in Phil are interesting. In a two-part story, it's just about the only way that SOLAR could really be defeated - by himself.
The new versions of SOLAR are strange - and could be cool - but heading into the closure of the Valiant era through Acclaim - it couldn't really survive.
I don't particularly like the forgetfulness of SOLAR - that is a bit strange - but the comic is pretty darned good. But poor for a SOLAR one.
You can tell a clunker.
What a mess this issue is. The cover - gentle suggestion of a thousand things - reveals its terrible contents inside. It's funny, but when this comic works hard to NOT try and tell a story - focusing on character - the opposite happens. It should tell an interesting story, and let the character be developed within.
That aside, we see Gwen Stacy in the comic - important for things to come - and know why she will become so important. She gets obsessed with Peter because he's busy worrying about Aunt May - which makes her obsess more. BTW - anyone else really reminded of the doctor in Johnny Dangerously every time a physician gives a prognosis of Aunt May?
